                    Introduction

The liturgy of the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time invites us to reflect on what truly matters in life. In today's Gospel, Jesus presents three parables that reveal the incomparable value of the Kingdom of God. 

Through the images of a hidden treasure, a precious pearl, and a fishing net, He teaches that life with God is worth every sacrifice.

In a world that often measures success by wealth, status, and possessions, Christ calls us to seek a treasure that neither fades nor disappoints, the eternal Kingdom of God.

"When we discover the treasure of God's Kingdom, every sacrifice becomes worthwhile."

First Reading: 1 Kings 3:5, 7-12

In the first reading, King Solomon is given a remarkable opportunity. God invites him to ask for whatever he desires. 

Instead of requesting wealth, power, or a long life, Solomon asks for wisdom and understanding so that he may govern God's people justly.

God is pleased with Solomon's request and grants him a wise and discerning heart unlike any before him.

True wisdom is one of God's greatest gifts. When we seek God's will above earthly gain, He blesses us abundantly.

Gospel: Matthew 13:44-52

In today's Gospel, Jesus offers three powerful parables about the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Hidden Treasure

A man discovers a treasure buried in a field. Filled with joy, he sells everything he owns to purchase that field and obtain the treasure.

The Pearl of Great Price

A merchant searching for fine pearls finds one of extraordinary value. Recognising its worth, he sells all that he has to acquire it.

The Fishing Net

A net cast into the sea gathers fish of every kind. At the end, the good fish are separated from the bad. 

Jesus uses this image to remind us that God will ultimately judge all people with justice and truth.

Together, these parables reveal that God's Kingdom is worth more than anything the world can offer.
